Moving to Linux – Finding Alternative Software
Posted on June 10th, 2010 No commentsI’ve been using Linux on servers for years, since before I started learning to code. Finally, after something like 7/8 years I am almost fully confident in severing the ties to my highly underused Windows installation on my personal laptop, but there are still a couple of exceptions

ctype_digit rtfm!
Posted on October 23rd, 2009 No commentsFor the last 5-10 minutes I've been wondering why a check on a variable which should be valid has been returning false. The check is ctype_digit, which returns true if all characters in a string are digits.

Windows 7 64Bit – Impressions So Far…
Posted on August 24th, 2009 No commentsI’ve been using the released version of Windows 7 for about 4 days on and off now and have to say it seems to be a massive improvement over Vista.

Windows 7 + iPhone Bluetooth
Posted on August 22nd, 2009 No commentsWell we finally received access to the Windows 7 Pro RTM, personally I've been running an RC for several month and think its the most polished version of Windows yet, but many people will find it difficult to adjust to. I've ran into a few issue with getting its Bluetooth support working with my iPhone, it appeared with the yellow triangle exclamation icon, not sure why, but this can be fixed by right clicking the phone icon, going to properties -> services and unticking the Wireless iAP option, click ok, right-click on the phone icon and select Connect using -> Access point.

HTML email with images broken in Windows Live Hotmail and Firefox
Posted on July 6th, 2009 No commentsIf you’ve ever had to design/build HTML emails for work or fun or whatever, you might have run into a bit of an issue getting your email to display consistently in the multitude of email clients out there. I tend to just test my emails in Gmail, Outlook, Windows Live Hotmail and occasionally Mac Mail. I used to only test in Windows Live Hotmail using IE as I was resigned to the fact that it never worked properly in Firefox – until now! I finally got hassled into finding a solution for the only issue we had left – a 3 or 4 pixel gap appearing in between all the images

Parcelforce’s Web Developers are Idiots
Posted on June 16th, 2009 No commentsThis sort of thing really angers me and displays the fact that the web developers of the Parcelforce website will happily display a total lack of ineptitude at developing websites. To block off an entire operating system for no reason whatsoever , is simply astounding, and I can’t believe companies still employ such idiots

Changing Project Types in Eclipse
Posted on May 27th, 2009 No commentsIf you created a project in Eclipse, but you created a regular “Project” instead of a particular project type (in my case, a “PHP Project” then there is a fairly easy way of fixing it. I had to do this to make a particular project work in the PHP Explorer (which for some reason worked fine on Windows version of Eclipse, but not my version…) Create a new project of the type you want to convert your existing project to

Google Chrome’s Future Support for Extensions
Posted on December 13th, 2008 No commentsThis is an interesting article from the Google operating system blog about plugin support in the Google Chrome Browser: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/12/on-google-chromes-future-support-for.html With this approach however I have to ask myself, will Chrome ever exceed the abilities of Firefox?
