Apache Live Log (ALiveLog)
Posted on March 7th, 2010 No commentsA really useful tool for providing simple stylised views of apache webserver log files via the browser. Ideal for providing a level of log file monitoring/analysis to novice web developers or website owners who don't want or need to see the raw log file text, but might need to keep occasional tabs on how the webserver is behaving as part of a bigger website control panel style app.

Good Site Design, SEO and Semantics all in one
Posted on June 14th, 2009 No commentsOne thing I ensure I do on all sites is to develop for two audiences at once. The first audience is of course the end user of the site.

Linking CSS on Zend Framework, the XHTML Valid way
Posted on April 10th, 2009 No commentsI’ve been getting to know Zend Framework , and despite it being awesome so far, there’s a few quirks I just don’t understand… maybe I missed something… Anyway, David Cooper posted a quick howto on adding CSS to a Zend Framework page , which works and is all well and good, but there was a problem. The code that Zend Framework spits out was not XHTML valid

HTTP POST Webservice Client
Posted on February 6th, 2009 No commentsHere’s something I don’t do very often, but I’ve written a quick procedural script that could easily be turned into a class that will submit data to a HTTP POST “webservice”. It wouldn’t be a web service per se, rather than just a PHP script that accepts POST parameters, as opposed to an actual SOAP endpoint

New Shiny VPS
Posted on January 7th, 2009 No commentsA little while ago I posted about Slicehost , who provide Virtual Private Servers (VPS) in USA for pretty good VFM. My SVN repository and muck-around LAMP environment has been hosted on my laptop for a few weeks now, but Hannah wants the laptop back so I did some investigation into getting a VPS. I’ve settled on Linode , who are similar but I think are better VFM.

Dodgy Wordpress Plugins and Themes
Posted on July 28th, 2008 No commentsRecently I have been doing a LOT of research into various wordpress themes and plugins and as you may expect the code varies from the excellent to the dire, but in most cases each achieves what it is supposed to. That said however I have been seeing an increasing number of dodgy/spammy plugins which would probably cause more harm than good to the blogs of people who blindly install them. These plugins or themes generally suggest they are doing one thing, but are actually doing another, such as building networks of spam links or sending valuable infomration to third parties..
