Hang out on the South Bank
Posted on April 10th, 2010 No commentsI took a trip up to London last Saturday and wandered along the South Bank in search of some good food. Sadly, there are surprisingly few inviting restaurants on that side of the river… In amongst the crowd, silly joggers and beams of fantastically warm sunshine, we came across Daniel Waples playing his hang. It’s an incredible instrument

Buzz in Gmail Potential Issue
Posted on February 17th, 2010 No commentsI don't know if this is just my account, but from the point that Google Buzz got integrated with my Gmail Account (6 days ago or so) Gmail hadn't collected any email from the main pop accounts I have it setup to retrieve from. I've just forced a collection now and hopefully it'll all work going forwards, but I wonder if anyone else out there reading my blog has seen something similar... Related posts: QR Codes Are Great! Eye creams: take your time, do some research and get it right!
Posted on August 10th, 2009 No commentsThis is a sponsored post: I’ve been working with computers since I started university in 2001, and since then my eyesight has gradually been deteriorating!
I don’t wear glasses or lenses, even though I probably should, and the reason is that I just don’t want to be burdened with them. I can still see quite well even if I have to squint every now and then, but as soon as I get my eyes tested and have to start wearing specs, I’ll have no chance of being able to do stuff I take for granted at the min, like waking up at the weekend and grab a book to read. in_array in Excel – or a Vertical Lookup
Posted on July 9th, 2009 No commentsI’m not a power Excel user, but as we handle a lot of data, I had to use it earlier today to do some in_array type searching. Basically, I had a CSV with a load of IDs, but we’d already processed some of the IDs

ZOMG! Blog Theme v2 Nearly Ready!
Posted on November 30th, 2008 No commentsRegular readers of my blog who visit the site (not just subscribe to the RSS) will have noticed over time, since I made this theme and released it on June 3rd 2008, my blog slowly changing and looking more sleek and refined. I’ve literally just finished the comments CSS, so comments are nicely boxed up and styled, rather than the basic numbered list.

You Can’t Compile a PHP FastCGI on Ubuntu!
Posted on November 21st, 2008 No commentsLast night I was having some issues compiling a real-life FastCGI I could actually use, but I came across a big show-stopper: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgssapi_krb5 After a little research and talking on the #roadsend IRC channel with GRiD (see chat log ), I discovered that you just can’t compile a statically linked binary on Ubuntu. The statically linked library was dropped between Feisty and Gusty, and this may also be the case across many other Debian-based distributions
