Handling CType Data With SimpleXML in PHP
Posted on January 15th, 2010 No commentsIf you're new to SimpleXML then the output and representation of complex XML data produced by the library can be daunting and sometimes confusing, but once you're used to it, SimpleXML is a massively useful tool for processing XML information. When debugging other people's implementations of simpleXML however, one of the biggest issues I come across time and again is the apparent loss of CType data from the processed feed. Luckily this is very easily remedied, but not well documented so here's how to deal with it.

Styling the The TinyMCE Text Area
Posted on January 4th, 2010 No commentsThey guys who produce TinyMCE suggest, when initialising the editor, that you set the content_css parameter to be the url to your site’s CSS, so that the content you type into the text area is styled in the same way as the rest of your site.

Agggh Quota Exceeded
Posted on December 1st, 2009 No commentsApparently though I've only used 3,341.70 MB of my 20,000.00 MB webspace I have hit my file quota limit of 262,144 files. And what notification did I get - none! Just a load of head scratching as to why my FTP uplaods were failing... Looks like I'm gonna have to delete some stuff..

ctype_digit rtfm!
Posted on October 23rd, 2009 No commentsFor the last 5-10 minutes I've been wondering why a check on a variable which should be valid has been returning false. The check is ctype_digit, which returns true if all characters in a string are digits.

HTML email with images broken in Windows Live Hotmail and Firefox
Posted on July 6th, 2009 No commentsIf you’ve ever had to design/build HTML emails for work or fun or whatever, you might have run into a bit of an issue getting your email to display consistently in the multitude of email clients out there. I tend to just test my emails in Gmail, Outlook, Windows Live Hotmail and occasionally Mac Mail. I used to only test in Windows Live Hotmail using IE as I was resigned to the fact that it never worked properly in Firefox – until now! I finally got hassled into finding a solution for the only issue we had left – a 3 or 4 pixel gap appearing in between all the images

Some Recent Stuff on Web Application Security
Posted on May 5th, 2009 No commentsI subscribe to the Security Focus web application security mailing list and as a result I get all kinds of mail through on various topics from across the field. Recently (last 6-9 months or so) a few have caught my eye that I thought would be useful to forward to friends and colleagues also in the business, and similarly I thought I’d summarise those items here too: Anti-fraud Image Solutions from Gunter Ollmann Checklist for testing web apps from Paul Johnston OWASP TESTING GUIDE v3 from OWASP The Extended HTML Form attack revisited from Sandro Gauci Related posts: How to filter user submitted data easily in PHP?
