Windows 7 Partition Manager
Posted on May 30th, 2010 No commentsI’ve just found a handy free tool for managing partitions really easily in Windows 7. http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html I’d used the built in partition manager in the Windows 7 Disk Management tools to shrink my primary volume and make the second drive, but then I realised I’d made it too big and needed a couple of extra gig added back onto my C drive

Apache Live Log (ALiveLog)
Posted on March 7th, 2010 No commentsA really useful tool for providing simple stylised views of apache webserver log files via the browser. Ideal for providing a level of log file monitoring/analysis to novice web developers or website owners who don't want or need to see the raw log file text, but might need to keep occasional tabs on how the webserver is behaving as part of a bigger website control panel style app.

Agggh Quota Exceeded
Posted on December 1st, 2009 No commentsApparently though I've only used 3,341.70 MB of my 20,000.00 MB webspace I have hit my file quota limit of 262,144 files. And what notification did I get - none! Just a load of head scratching as to why my FTP uplaods were failing... Looks like I'm gonna have to delete some stuff..

Windows 7 doesn’t seem to like zip files
Posted on August 30th, 2009 No commentsOn every other version of windows I've used over the last 12 years or so, you've always been able to double click a .zip archive, open it up like a folder and drag and drop any files you like out of it to anywhere else on your hard drive.

Windows 7 64Bit – Impressions So Far…
Posted on August 24th, 2009 No commentsI’ve been using the released version of Windows 7 for about 4 days on and off now and have to say it seems to be a massive improvement over Vista.

Tethering your HTC Magic Android Phone in Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)

Wordpress 2.8 automatic upgrade fails
Posted on July 4th, 2009 No commentsI’ve been trying to update my wordpress blogs from various versions like 2.5 and 2.7 to the newest 2.8 for a while now, but was never able to do it automatically. Every time I pressed the “upgrade automatically” button, it told me it was downloading the latest file from Wordpress, but it never got any further than that. I logged in to my site using my FTP client and found a 0KB sized file called wordpress2.8.zip in the wp_content folder, so I thought I’d found the issue – maybe the script can’t actually download the file and save it to disk because of permissions

Ubuntu One – Taking Linux To The Clouds
Posted on July 4th, 2009 No commentsI opened Google Mail on my HTC Magic this morning to find a lovely invitation to the Ubuntu One beta, woot. So I grabbed my shiny Sony Vaio laptop and fired it up, and got straight on with it

Netbeans – A Couple of Pointers
Posted on June 4th, 2009 No commentsI’ve started giving Netbeans for PHP a try, considering everyone is saying how much better it is than Eclipse PDT . So far I’m very impressed at it’s simplicity and ease of use - which for the main tool a programmer uses day in an day out for at least 8 hours, is a very good thing. However I came across a couple of “issues” or teething problems rather, that thankfully with a short Google (sorry Bing…), I managed to find solutions for… Delaying the Code Completion Pop-up Here at Netbasic towers, we have very big projects.

Installing Zend Framework 1.8.x on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) using SVN
Posted on May 20th, 2009 No commentsWith the release of the 1.8 series of Zend Framework, I felt the need to update this article , especially due to the entirely new project setup process provided by Zend_Tool. Again, we start with installing the LAMP stack if you haven’t done so already: sudo tasksel install lamp-server So now you’ve got your LAMP stack up and running, lets download the latest SVN tag of Zend Framework. At the time of writing, the latest stable is 1.8.1, which I’ll use here
