Posted on February 8th, 2010 No commentsIt’s been live for a couple of weeks now, although I haven’t done much promotion of it, so here is word of an “official” announcement of my new portfolio site. Please take a look around and if you have any constructive criticism, feedback or advice, feel free to let me know through the usual channels… So without further ado, I pronounce www.jamestitcumb.com officially open!

Semantic Markup – What should h1 Be?
Posted on December 11th, 2009 No commentsI had an interesting argument earlier today. One of our websites is being redesigned at the moment, and the page layout has the logo and company name at the top, and below the menu is a subtitle

Dixons – UR DOIN IT WRONG
Posted on November 24th, 2009 No commentsToday when ordering a webcam for my parents, the Dixons website really got my back up. Firstly the page died and never gave me a reference number. Secondly, and most annoyingly , I went to view my account, and every page I attempted to load I was presented with the screen shown

Rant: Clickable Text and Checkboxes / Radios
Posted on August 27th, 2009 No commentsArgh, it really annoys me when web designers have check boxes or radio buttons that do not have clickable text attached.

Lookin’ Good: Two Practise ZCE Tests Passed
Posted on August 25th, 2009 No commentsAs some of you may know, back in March/April time, I started revising for my Zend PHP5 Certification, but that was pretty much put on hold when we had a baby… now I’m revising again and after having revised a couple of topics I retook the test. As you can see, I passed it “with flying colours” this time, but still have improvement to do with Streams and Design patterns… Comparing with my last test: 2 categories remained the same; Database access Web features) 4 categories improved; PHP 4/5 Differences (was FAIL) Security (was PASS) String Manipulation and Regular Expressions (was PASS) Functions (was PASS) 2 categories declined; Streams and Network Programming (was PASS) Design (was EXCELLENT) [eep - not so good that!] I think overall however, these statistics shouldn’t be examined too much – there are some questions I can guess and don’t demonstrate that I truly *know* some topics, so I’m going to cover off a few categories I don’t feel to confident on anyway – but then the practise tests are just indicators, and not meant to represent the final exam… we’ll see!

Bernie, where are my carrots?
Posted on August 9th, 2009 No commentsA couple of weekends ago, I went to B&Q and bought some seeds to sow in my newly cleared garden. I’ve been thinking about growing some potatoes, but I want to grow them in a tub so that I can pick potatoes out as I want to eat them and save having to harvest them all at once! So, using a mix of preference and information on what I could actually sow this late in the year, I ended up with 2 packs of seeds. Carrots and turnips.

HTML email with images broken in Windows Live Hotmail and Firefox
Posted on July 6th, 2009 No commentsIf you’ve ever had to design/build HTML emails for work or fun or whatever, you might have run into a bit of an issue getting your email to display consistently in the multitude of email clients out there. I tend to just test my emails in Gmail, Outlook, Windows Live Hotmail and occasionally Mac Mail. I used to only test in Windows Live Hotmail using IE as I was resigned to the fact that it never worked properly in Firefox – until now! I finally got hassled into finding a solution for the only issue we had left – a 3 or 4 pixel gap appearing in between all the images

ZOMG! Blog Theme v2 Nearly Ready!
Posted on November 30th, 2008 No commentsRegular readers of my blog who visit the site (not just subscribe to the RSS) will have noticed over time, since I made this theme and released it on June 3rd 2008, my blog slowly changing and looking more sleek and refined. I’ve literally just finished the comments CSS, so comments are nicely boxed up and styled, rather than the basic numbered list.
